“Gyeongguk Daejeon:

The Constitution of Joseon Dynasty of Korea

meets the World's Constitutions”

Venue: University Museum, SKKU

* Opening Ceremony : 18 June (Mon) 14:00-14:30

The base code of laws during the Joseon Dynasty,

it is the original and continuing text of the Gyeongje Yukjeon

from the founding of Joseon, and the unified code of laws

from the base governance made from the combining of laws

from afterwards. In 1460 (Sejo Year 6) the administrative

and economic base Hojeon was edited and named the Gyeongguk Daejeon,

made into a woodcut, and though the editing was finished in 1467

(Sejo Year 13) revisions and supplements continued.

The Gyeongje Yukjeon is divided into six sections entitled I (ministers),

Ho (residence), Ye (conduct), Byeong (military), Hyeong (punishment),

and Gong (industry), and each volume was divided and regulated into

its respective parts. After this Daejeon was put into practice books

of statutes such as Daejeon Songnok and Sugyo Jimnok and codes

of laws such as Sokdaejeon and Daejeon Hoitong were edited

and put into practice; there are no few provisions

that were reformed or discarded, but the basic ideology was continued.
